An Extraordinarily Ordinary Christmas

I have work to do. Unfinished blog post drafts. Christmas presents to wrap. Christmas presents to buy. I’ve hardly blogged at all this month, and I actually went 48 hours without posting a picture to Instagram. I don’t care to admit how many emails I need to send … reply to … And you know what? I’m okay with all of that, for now.

I didn’t get dressed Friday, or Saturday. I enjoyed a cup of 1/2 caff coffee, and an extra piece of sourdough toast. I watched The Lion King with my little girl. I bathed. She bathed. We put on clean pajamas. We had leftovers for lunch. We stayed home from church on Sunday. Sunday night, we watched The Nativity Story with my family. Nothing ‘special,’ nothing out of the ordinary, or fancy, or particularly creative. Nothing that would seem important to anyone but us. These moments — these are the moments that mean something. These are the things that Tim wants to hear about after a long day on a rig move, or a blessedly uneventful day of drilling. These are the things that Maile thanks God for before she goes to bed. These are the moments we, as adults, so often overlook.

Our days this year, this season, have they been special? To us, to our family, yes.

If you or your loved ones are working away from home this Christmas (as my husband is), I pray for their safety, their peace, and that you have a wonderful celebration with them, whenever that may be. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays, from our oilfield family to yours!
